Back to work ~ vacation but a distant memory

Well, my vacation to Shane's magnificent cottage is all but a thing of the past. As far as vacations go, it was top notch. Top drawer, even. We started out the vacation by drinking a bunch of beer. Come to think of it, that's exactly how we finished the vacation, too! We took the boat out to "The Island", finally stepping foot on the ever forbidden territory. I say "forbidden" because the lady that owns the island kicked us off, explaining that it was private property. Apparently, she doesn't take too well to strangers trespassing on her land, or something. Talk about grumpy! So we once again set sail, this time with our sites set on "Bird Island". Let me tell you, it is aptly named. First of all, we weren't even at the island yet when we were assaulted with the reek of bird ass. Secondly, every square inch of the island was covered in bird shit, and dirty old nests littered the ground. Sunny chased down and captured one of the baby birds. We couldn't figure out what kind of bird it was at the time, but after doing a little research (and asking my dad), I've come to believe the name of the bird is Cormorant. Here's a good picture of what one looks like:

We completed our trip to Bird Island with a rousing session of hackey sac, then headed for home.

Sunny, Dave and I took the same boat out a few days later for a small fishing excursion, which turned out to be us letting the current take us further out to sea while we just left our lines in the water and sun bathed. This is the reason for Sunny losing his fishing rod in the water. Either he got his hook snagged on some rocks, or he caught a fairly gigantic fish. Either way, he dove in after it and we swung the boat around to where we thought the rod would be, but we were unable to retrieve it, despite our best efforts. Turns out it's pretty hard to search the waters when your laughing hard enough to cry. Sorry Sunny, but that could only happen to you!  =)

Later that week, we all went spelunking at Greig's Caves and had a blast. I'd never been spelunking before, so it was quite fun, but if I was to try it again, I'd want to go to some more elaborate under-ground caves that network together in a large system of tunnels and stalactites and stalagmites and bats and scary things... or some such thing. I don't even know if something like that exists in Canada, but it's definitely something I would love to do!

Anyways, the rest of the week was spent drinking, playing hackey sac, drinking, playing scrabble, and drinking. I had a good time, but now I must return to the ever present daily grind. At least I'm fortunate enough to have something to look forward to at the end of this week... KEMF-IX, or Kerwood Electronic Music Festival, held by my friend, Mike. This will be the ninth one. I can't wait, as it always promises to be a good time (volleyball, horseshoes, hackey sac, beer, etc). If I make a flyer for it, I'll make sure to post it here!

Cottage & Cooper!

I'm leaving for Shane's cottage in an hour, so I'm getting pretty ansy. It's going to be a good time, but I'm sad some of my friends can't come. Though, it makes me happy that Andrew stepped up and offered his mom's cottage to all those not able to go to Shane's. They will have a good time, I'm sure. Of course, I won't be there, so it might be a complete disaster!  =)

Also, I just saw Alice Cooper at the Bulk Barn buying candy. I'm not kidding.

I'm off to the cottage now, so I won't be able to "blog" until I get back, but I'll be thinking about my new blog while I'm up at Sauble Beach basking in the sun. Well, maybe I'll think of it when I get back...
